Get help

If you or your family need shelter or assistance in Vincennes, we're here. You will be treated with dignity and respect.

This website is not monitored as an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. [Final emergency-resource language pending organizational review]

What we can help with

First City Sunrise provides temporary shelter, warm meals, case management, and help finding permanent housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Eligible families with children may also qualify for temporary hotel assistance.

Shelter availability may vary night to night. Please call (812) 830-2797 before coming so we can confirm space and talk through your situation.

How intake works

  1. Call us. Reach (812) 830-2797 to check availability. [Confirm intake hours]
  2. Brief conversation. Staff or a trained volunteer will ask a few questions to understand your needs and confirm a bed or other support.
  3. Arrive and settle in. [Confirm arrival instructions and shelter address disclosure policy]
After hours: Add instructions for people who need help outside intake hours.

Who we can serve

Eligibility: Confirm eligibility rules before publishing: who may stay (individuals, families, minors), sobriety or behavior expectations, length-of-stay guidelines, and any documentation requirements.

What to bring

Don't let missing items keep you from calling. We can help with essentials. If you have them, it helps to bring:

  • A photo ID, if you have one (we can help you get one if you don't)
  • Any medications you take
  • Personal items and clothing

[Confirm full what-to-bring and storage policy]

Families and children

Keeping families together and children off the street is one of our core commitments. Eligible families with children may receive temporary hotel assistance when that is the safest option. [Confirm family services details]

Accessibility

Accessibility information: Describe the shelter's physical accessibility (entrances, restrooms, beds) and how guests with disabilities are accommodated.

Getting here

Transportation: Add transportation options and whether pick-up help is available. Publish the shelter address only if the organization's address-disclosure policy allows it.

If no beds are available

If we cannot offer a bed tonight, we will do our best to connect you with other resources in the area.

Emergency and overflow resources: List nearby shelters, warming sites, 211 information, and crisis lines after verification. Do not publish unverified referrals.
